22nd European Throwing Cup Leiria 2023

On 11-12th of March 2023, Portuguese Leiria was a host of European Throwing Cup. This competition is a start of season for European throwers and the best contestants of the continent take part in it.

Throws are traditionally considered to be a strong asset of Europe. In Leiria, equipment is also strong. We delivered this equipment to Portugal: javelins, discuses, shots and hammers of various weights, diameters and kinds.

The cup is organized annually. Throwers have a rivalry in javelin, discus and hammer throw as well as in shot put. The results of contestants are then translated into points – a representation, with the highest amount of points, wins.

12 athletes were a part of the Polish Representation.
Young Dawid Piłat was the best Polish athlete in Polish team by taking second place in youth category. He threw the hammer over 70 metres twice (72,42 and 71,18).
The event was won by 22-year-old Mychajło Kochan from Ukraine (75,80).

Unfavourable weather resulted in the hammer throw event not to be rich in great results. Bence Halász from Hungary won the event with the result of 74,65. Sixth place was taken by Paweł Fajdek (72,57), and Marcin Wrotyński finished the event without any successful throw.

In discus throw event, Oskar Stachnik was the fourth (61,94), Robert Urbanek the fifth (61,77), Kristjan Čeh from Slovenia won by throwing the discus on the distance of 68,30 metres.
Rivalry in U23 category was finished for Damian Rodziak with eight place (53,09).

Sunday starts of White-Reds was started with Katarzyna Furmanek. In group B, she took fourth place in women hammer throw event with the result of 66,45. Silver medallist from European Championships in Munich, Ewa Różańska started in group A. Our contestant took sixth place by throwing 69,18. The trial throw for 73,26 resulted in victory for Sara Fantini from Italy.

Polish women discus throwers took further places. In group A, Daria Zabawska was ninth with the score of 58,15, in group B, Weronika Muszyńska (52,29) was eighth. Shanice Craft from Germany threw the farthest – 64,88.

The shot put competition U23 was finished by Wojciech Marok on the seventh place with the score of 18,26. Muhament Ramadani won, and his result has become a new record of Kosovo.
