Golden Spikes Silesia 2024
On October 24th 2024, 55th The Golden Spikes of Silesia Gala took place of The Golden Spikes of Silesia.
The best athletes of 2024 were: Olympic bronze medallist in the 400-metre run Natalia Bukowiecka and European champion in hammer throw Wojciech Nowicki.
Natalia Bukowiecka won the European Championship in the finished season, and during the Olympic Games in Paris she won bronze in the 400 meters. She also improved the Polish record twice.

The Golden Spikes award in the men's category was won by Wojciech Nowicki, who won the title of European champion in Rome in June.

18-Year-old polygonist Hubert Trościanka was considered to be the discovery of the year.
The best Polish para-athlete was our Paralympian and gold medallist from Paris, Barbara Bieganowska-Zając.
During the gala in Chorzów, partners and sponsors of athletics in our country were also appreciated.
On behalf of our company, the award was received by Vice President Marcin Szczepanik.

The gala at the Silesian Stadium was also an opportunity to thank the athletes who decided to end their careers. Congratulations and occasional gifts from the authorities of the Polish Athletic Association were received by Rafał Augustyn, Angelika Cichocka, Małgorzata Hołub-Kowalik, Anna Kiełbasińska, Jakub Krzewina, Joanna Linkiewicz, Przemysław Słowikowski, Henryk Szost, Robert Urbanek and Paweł Wojciechowski.
Golden Spikes is a joint award of the Polish Athletic Association and the Przęgląd Sportowy. The initiator of its creation was the late editor of the Katowice daily magazine called "Sport" Andrzej Gowarzewski. It has been delivered since 1970. Its first winners were Teresa Sukniewicz and Henryk Szordykowski. In the following years, the winners of the ranking were such celebrities of Polish athletics as Irena Szewińska, Władysław Kozakiewicz, Jacek Wszoła, Robert Korzeniowski, or Szymon Ziółkowski. In recent years, the absolute dominator is Anita Włodarczyk, who from 2009 to 2021 reached for the award as many as ten times.
