On 8th of February in Toruń there will be an Orlen Copernicus Cup meeting for the sixth time. Once more, many world athletics stars will participate. Medallist of Olympic Games, World and European Championships will visit Toruń including: Iga Baumgart-Witan, Konrad Bukowiecki, Michał Haratyk, Adam Kszczot, Marcin Lewandowski, Piotr Lisek, Justyna Święty-Ersetic and Paweł Wojciechowski.
As a PARTNER OF ORLEN COPERNICUS CUP we strongly maintain our support of its organisation and supply equipment necessary to conduct the meeting. Contestants are invited to Toruń, and we wish athletes to get fantastic results!
Those championships are included in World Athletics Indoor Tour. This year, World Athletics Indoor Tour starts on 25th of January in Boston and then, it will move to Karlsruhe, Duesseldorf, Toruń, Glasgow, Lievin and Madrid.
Let us just say, that in 2019 Copernicus Cup has been admitted by IAAF (currently World Athletics) as the best meeting in Europe.
During the press conference, which was held on 8.01.2020, Krzysztof Wolsztyński, the president of Kujawsko-Pomorski Athletics Association, informed that there will be an extra bonus for breaking the record: "We have one of the best meetings in the World. I hope the 400 m Polish Record in women run will be broken. We have even signed it in the contract that for breaking the record, a prize will be bigger than normal. The record holder of the meeting is Lee Sprunger, who always want to run in our meeting and she will visit us this time as well."
Polish runners including Iga Baumgart-Witan, who celebrated victories in Toruń two times, will compete against Sprunger. "Meeting is getting more and more interesting, participants are getting better and better. As an athlete I can confirm the title of the best meeting in Europe. Here, everything is organized in the best possible way. My life records were broken here in Toruń, because running here is great, plus there is no better place in Poland to feel the atmosphere that is present here" - said the BKS Bydgoszcz runner.
The meeting will take three hours. At 6:05 just after opening ceremony, women long jump will begin. The final competition sheduled at 8:40 will be 800 m men run. After finishing all competitions, there will be ceremony of handing out prizes and awards.
The choice of 800 m men run as an ending competition is not incidental. "The level of runners abilities is so high, that Adam Kszczot has in this group has sixth score in comparison to the score from 2019" - Wolsztyński highlightened. "The run will be led to beat the Polish record, but I'm not sure if our participants are able to beat it now, it is surely one of the most interesting competitions in this meeting".
Pole Vault competition also presents itself as one of the interesting competitions in this meeting. Shawnacy Barber, Armand Duplantis and obviously Polish pole vaulters - Lisek and Wojciechowski will compete against each other during this competition. "I would like to put a small emphasis on women long jump. Unfortunately we do not have a Polish representation in this competition, but there will be five jumpers, who have in their carrers 7 metres jumps" - said the president of Kujawsko-Pomorski Athletics Association.
