Stars of Athletics at Copernicus Cup 2026
The Orlen Copernicus Cup gathered the world’s leading athletes on the start line for the twelfth time, but for the first time it held the status of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Final.
On 22nd of February 2026, we were also present at the Kujawsko-Pomorski Arena Toruń, where a full range of Polanik equipment supported the athletes in their pursuit of top performances.
Poland’s World silver medallist from Tokyo, Maria Żodzik, cleared 1.96m to achieve the World Athletics qualifying standard for the World Indoor Championships. She went on to clear 1.98m to win the meeting and, in doing so, secured overall victory in this year’s World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series.
Ewa Swoboda comfortably achieved the qualifying standard for the March World Indoor Championships in the heats. In the final she placed fourth but clocked a season’s best of 7.09. A personal best of 7.19 earned Jagoda Mierzyńska seventh place, making her the second Polish woman to achieve the qualifying standard for the World Indoors over 60 metres.
Natalia Bukowiecka opened her season in style, immediately achieving the qualifying mark for the global championships. She finished second in 50.97 — the third-fastest indoor time in Polish athletics history.
The reigning European Indoor Champion Anna Wielgosz ran a lifetime best of 1:59.47 over 800 metres — the second-fastest indoor performance in Polish history.
In the men’s 800 metres, Maciej Wyderka produced another outstanding run this season. The Polish record-holder clocked an impressive 1:44.30 to finish second. Strong performances also came from third-placed Filip Ostrowski (1:44.72) and eighth-placed Patryk Sieradzki (1:46.29 PB).
Jakub Szymański remains unbeaten this season in the 60m hurdles. The Polish record-holder claimed victory in 7.49. Pia Skrzyszowska finished fourth in the women’s 60m hurdles in 7.82; following victory by Bahamian Devynne Charlton in 7.77, she relinquished her lead in the world rankings.
Kamil Herzyk set an excellent personal best of 3:37.32 to finish ninth in the 1500 metres.
Konrad Bukowiecki placed seventh in the shot put with 20.18m.
Magdalena Bokun and Anna Matuszewicz recorded marks of 6.28m and 6.08m respectively in the long jump.
As in previous years, the women’s pentathlon was also contested. Paulina Ligarska won by a single point ahead of Great Britain’s Pawlett, setting a lifetime best of 4,676 points — the fourth-highest score in Polish history and the world-leading mark this season. Third-placed Adrianna Sułek-Schubert scored 4,667 points, improving her ranking in the race for World Indoor qualification.
